Went to the charity tourney for UNICO in the merrimack valley...Actually it Indian Head country club and there were about 80-85 entries. I didn't get close to the money but I had fun. I did get an all-in call from a guy that didn't really know how to play..I ended up with quad J's after the fourth J fell on the river. It was down to about 40 people left when I found A-Jd and had to go all-in (blinds would have put me all-in next hand). The guy next to isolation raises and puts another guy in a bind. The guy says "nice isolation raise" and mucks his two 9's face up! The guy who isolation raised had 2 9's!! I was in great shape to double up....but this isn't the internet and although two more diamonds flopped giving me 15 outs I still didn't improve and got knocked out. I talked to one "kid" before the tourney..He placed 4th in the World Poker finals 1,000 entry NL hold'em last week..He won the entry through another charity tourney at a castle earlier in the year...write up is here ....This is the tourney where I got "godsmacked" by the lead singer of the band. He can play and he can back it up!..the picture is hilarious though and he says that he takes a lot of shit because of it...I think it looks like he just got off of a 3 day bender.
I should rename this blog "Charity Poker" because it feels like I donate more than I should!! I have cashed a couple of times though..Once in a chop for first. It's such a good vehicle for raising money especially lately. Massa-friggin-chusetts laws are prohibitive though and they make it hard to raise the maximum amount of money. No rebuy tourneys as of June 30th, 2005 has killed a lot of fundraising. I really like the idea of the philanthropy and poker combining for all sorts of charities. I guess when I saw my wifes best friend die from a different form of Lymphoma that she suffered from 10 years earlier....It sort of changed the way I looked at the whole fundraising idea. We named out daughter "Cara" in memory of her. She was supposed to be one of the Maids of Honor at our wedding and her sickness prevented that. We went to a fund raiser for the Neely house last night called "comics come home" ...it was hilarious. Dennis Leary, Lenny Clarke, Adam Ferrara...and a host of other comedians from the Northeast we're performing at the "Agganis Arena" at Boston University. Back in the day when newly annointed to the hockey hall-of-fame Cam Neely was in his prime he had to deal with both his parents passing away from Cancer. Soon after he met my wifes best friend "Cara" who was sick for the first time with some form of lymphoma (she literally became the Poster child or in this case billboard child of the Dana Farber Cancer Institute) and asked her to be a fund raiser for the Neely house. She declined at the time and went on to become a fund raiser for Tufts Universities Labs or something like that. Her parents have setup a foundation in her memory here . Ten years later my wife and I who were engaged asked her to be a Maid of honor at our planned wedding and she bacame sick again with another rare form of cancer. It's a very sad story but one that changes ones outlook on life. Massachusetts is going to miss out on some very good fundraising opportunities but I guess they will lose the opportunity to New Hampshire which is 5 miles away from where I live.
Other miscellany:
Haven't played a lot online recently due to my new "getting up earlier routine" to help out the wife with my daughter. I might just start playing the drunks earlier in the morning that have played through the night before. I used to play all night but when you have an infant in the house it's damn near impossible to do that. I'm looking for a reload bonus on Party but they haven't had one recently.
If someone wants to vent rage you can go to RGP and just tell everybody that their an asshole everytime someone posts. That's what seems to happen every time someone puts up a post. There seems to be a "clique" mentality on there and there are only a few posters who don't get insulted on a regular basis. It is funny once in a while but it gets old fast.
I may just have to redeposit to UB..I've won the most money on tournaments on UB by far over the other sites....I have no idea why The huge low buy-in tourneys on Stars are really good for practicing against big fields but the cash-ins are pretty low for me. They are also good for the large field-low buyin tourneys for Omaha Hi/Lo 8 and Seven card Stud.

Charity Tourney and other stuff
There was another poker club raided in the Northeast recently. They were playing for a seat in the World Poker Finals at Foxwoods. I think I'll play this charity tourney on Friday night...which I believe will also have a buy-in to the WPF for 1st prize.
On another note..I've been playing a ton of the low buy-in MTT's on PokerStars lately..placing in a bunch but just over the bubble..not near the real money at the final tables...
My EmpirePoker playing days may be over really soon...unless they give me the bonus that they advertised..I think it was for playing raked hands from 10/30-11/4. I probably played 600-700 hands and I don't see anything yet..better make it soon or I am moving my pathetic balance somewhere else!! This is probably the second such "phantom bonus" that they have offered recently and me thinks it has something to do with the impending PartyPoker takeover?! Let's hope that they get this done soon and good times will be had by all again.
I can't keep up with all the new Poker Blogs out there...there are so many with so much to offer...I wonder how many are from the New England area...shoot me an email at vze2tbkc@verizon.net if you have one. I'm always looking for more poker/stuff to read.
I want to play all these Blogger tourneys that have been setup recently but the family commitments take precedence. I had to miss the Online Blogger Championship (folded my way to 650th or somewhere around that number) and other recent blogger tourneys. It would be cool to have one on Friday night at 9:30 (that's when the wife and baby are both sleeping). I got a chance to help my buddy drink his freshly reloaded keg-erator this Sunday...man I wish I had one of those. It is just so much easier than recycling cans/bottles and only needs to be reloaded every now and then.
This is pretty funny...the new hockey fans..

Foxwoods Trip Report
It’s much more fun to play a live game…especially when you’re drunk…and it’s your birthday! I was at Foxwoods on Sunday the 30th..And played until the 5:00AM on the 31st. I got a room with two beds and tried to upgrade to a suite to no avail. There were four of us there but I knew that I was going to be playing poker all night so by the time I got back to the room I was happy just to crash on the floor. I think I played a 9.5 hour session at a 1-2 NL table starting at 7:30PM. Let’s see if I can recreate the table by memory. I was sitting across from the dealer. To my left was a late 20’s dude that would say “raizzzzzzzzzzze” every time he got a hand. It was a slow controlled tone..The same “raizzzzzzzze” even when he bet…..some of the guys at the table were ribbing him when he bet and said “raizzzze”..They said “bettttttt” and started laughing hysterically…he didn’t think it was funny. He also didn’t think it was funny when I spilt my beer on my leg and splashed all over him…you see I was one of the “Drunk guys” at the table..After all it was my birthday and I was drinking a lot of beers. To his left was a young guy that had a decent chip stack that fluctuated a lot throughout the night..I was the reason that guy left the table when he went all-in and I called with two pair (that was about 3:00AM or so). He was a good kid but when I got there and announced to everybody that I only play on the internet (I sometimes do this to get some loose calls and they generally don’t respect internet players for some reason) and it was my first time playing live he snickered and looked to his left. To his left was another twenty-something guy that was somewhat excited to here me say “I’ve only played on the internet”. That guy was better than his friend on the right and he was there all night as well with a decent chip stack. He had a talent for putting people on hands like my Q’s when I threw out a large bet. To his left was one of my high school buddies younger brothers who is a 30 year old physical therapist/body builder and likes to gamble (well all my friends like to gamble but he’s the only one that is a poker player like myself). His chip stack fluctuated quite a bit and was down about 250.00 when we left at 5:00AM. I think he re-bought three or four times…with a 100.00 max buy-in that can get pricey. To his left was the dealer or dealers…they switched every hour…and collected the 5.00 per hour rake when they sat down. This was much better than the rake on the 2-4 limit HE tables that I’ve played at Foxwoods previously. To the Dealers left was a friggin’ nightmare for tight players and easily frazzled players. I realized how tight I play live but I was “Drunk Guy” so he was actually entertaining and tilt inducing for some of the players. This kid (20-something) would “staddle bet” a lot and kept talking as if he was coked out of his head. I think he was your typical Ridlin popping A.D.D. brat when he was younger. Nevertheless he was kind of annoying times but had some interesting tricky plays. His chip stack was small and he was happy to have a few bucks when he left the table at 5:00AM..I think he just likes putting everybody on tilt and being the center of attention.
To his left was the “shaved-head-tattoo-guy”. He liked to make forceful bets with a sort of threatening stare. It was kind of funny because he scared nobody and left at 4:30AM with Nothing! To his left was the “Phil Ivey look-alike guy” who actually resembled Phil in his stack of chips..he must have had at least 1200 in chips when he left at 12:00 and we were at a max 100.00 buy-in table so he left when things got a little crazy. Come to think of it….he resembled the guy in that video by the Fine Young Cannibals…you know the lead singer that says “She drives me crazaayyyyyyayyy”. To his left was a small frail looking 30-ish dude with Space goggles….he was wearing a baseball hat and these ridiculously huge sunglasses and he looked like a fool! He was actually a pretty good player but everybody got quite a chuckle at his “Space-bug” look. He left at around 2:00AM with some chips although not many. For some reason I can hardly remember the guys sitting to his left and my right…I think that a bunch of players jumped in both seats all night…one was a Chinese guy and one was an 50’s-ish guy but nobody sat there for more than a couple of hours. One guy sitting in that seat actually spilled his beer on the table…the card room managers and brushes ran over and asked if we wanted to move but everybody wanted to stay put….there was a few TV’s with the Patriots on them at that point in the night and Tedi Bruschi came back so everybody wanted to keep up with the score and the game in general. How did I do?…I bought in for 100.00 fluctuated up and down for the first few hours…and left with 400.00. I’d say pretty well…considering it was a crazy 1-2 NL table. I’m starting to realize how tight I play live….I must have not of had a high flop-seen ratio. This table was full of characters and I had a great time so I think I’m going to be going down to Foxwoods sometime in the near future again. The world Poker finals were starting this weekend but most of the tourneys were either early in the AM or had qualifiers that seemed easy to get into. I didn’t do any of them…I was just happy to be playing at the table I was at. I think you would have to be staying there for a while to be in one of their tourneys..I got there at 3:30 on Sunday and left at 10:30 AM on Monday so there really wasn’t time to plan a tourney into my stay. Had a hangover when I left with 300.00 more than I started with so the last two times at Foxwoods I’ve left with about 1500.00 of their money. The 1200.00 from the previous visit was all from Blackjack and that was a whole different story.

Empire Poker
I was away on a vacation weekend with my wife and daughter in North Conway, NH not too long ago. I being an online addict, brought my laptop and a dial-up internet service with us. My wife glances a skeptical glance at me.......
Wife : "online poker after we go to sleep?"
Me : "It's for checking and changing the fantasy sports league settings...Of course!"
Wife : "uh-huh...So you're not going to play poker?..I mean I don't care if you do but..."
Me : "You two will be sleeping anyway so....."
Wife : "Make sure you can get up at a semi-normal hour tomorrow...ya know like 10:00AM!"
Me : "OK..OK...I will be playing internet poker but I won't drink too many beers....(blatant lie)"
I proceed to kill a bud-light twelve pack during a marathon session of Empire Poker. I did notice that the player count went from about 18,000 on a busy night to an average of about 9,000 active players...that PartyPoker split has hit them hard. I think a lot of the players left are not necessarily good....'Donkeys' if you will. I was killing the NL-PL sit'n'go's...five straight...5.00+1.00 buy-in tables...5,3,1,1,1,...three straight first place sit'n'go's...I have to go for four right? It was about 2:00AM and I had to keep this going...the sixth had to go about 1.5 hours...3:30AM...drunk...come in 3rd...what a night! These Empire Sit'n'go's are soft!! I of course get up at 11:00AM the next day. It was pouring out all weekend (Veterans Day Weekend).
Last weekend I had to miss the PokerStars Blogger championship...no comment...I did however get knocked out at about 645th or something close to that.....the folding phantom...I ended up beating more than half the field?!! It just occured to me that I have a terrible problem with run-on sentences...I've had that problem my whole life!! Fuck it! it's a blog...
Well the Sox did win the world series!...oh sorry wrong sox..but I'm glad for them. 1917 is a lot of years to listen to the 'holier than thou' Cub fans...1908...that just doesn't look right. There was probably a lot of Bi-Sox-sual fans here in Boston this year...the parallels were kind of freaky for both teams. But the Cubs are the only 'Cursed' team left...what's up with the stupid 'Billy-Goat' curse anyway..can't think of anything better? I would however like to get to Wrigley Field sometime in my life...I hear it's like going to Fenway Park but much different...whatever that means.

I'm going to make everybody sick!!!
First I am going to bring home a contagious cold from Daycare! Then I'm going to give it to both mommy and daddy!! Then a week later I am going to get Conjunctivitis.....and also give that to mommy and daddy!! HEEHEEHEEEEE!! My plan has worked so far...oh yeah and I'm also starting the teething process...therefore I will start screaming for no apparent reason. But look how cute I am!! No one will suspect me and even if they did what can they do about it...HEHEHEEEE!! It's the perfect plan...I am going to have to thank my baby buddy Stewie from "the Family Guy" He has coached me to be the cutest little villain-girl yet! Supposedly daddy is going to play poker at Foxwoods on his birthday this Sunday....hmmmm...maybe I'll let him go without a guilty conscience this time...but only this time! I hope he wins a lot so he can buy me that new hat that covers up my little bald head.I got this idea from Chilly at IDSN..I give him credit because I don't want him to sit on me!

What makes a good poker blog?
Things that make a good poker blog ( this has already been done before but hey..nobody said I was the most creative dude in the world) :
1. Total recall...or a good memory so you can document your Poker experiences good or bad. If you can't memorize it write it down! ((People who read blogs will probably be interested in the details).
2. Be honest with your opinions and stories (anybody could lie about something but it doesn't do you any good to lie to yourself).
3. Have an opinion! After all it is your blog!
4. Have a sense of Humor! (This may well be the most important thing about a poker blog or blog in general).
5. Always give credit for your references to people or other blogs (my whole blog is basically due to other blogs I read often).
7. Open yourself to criticism and be open to suggestion whether it be a strategy or opinion. This goes for Poker and life in general...if you don't know what's wrong you can't fix it!
ahhhhh...fuck it...I can't pretend to do this...I guess I'm not going to win a fleece from PokerStars because my list of things that make a great poker blog are like stating the obvious...go read this by Joe Speaker. I cannot and will not even try to top this one! While you're at it...check out the rest of the blogs under my "The Daily Reads" list and you will come to your own conclusion as to what makes a great poker blog!!!!!!!!!

I read a few Blogs everyday. they are posted as “The Best Poker Blogs” I’m positive that I will add more in the future but the current Blogs have something extra…I can relate to them in a big way. I have no idea why I do this (Blog) and I have no idea why anybody else would want to read it but therein lies the beauty of the internet. Post it and they will come! Well..Uh…maybe not but who gives a flying fuck. (BTW I don’t personally know any of the following people..but they impress me in different ways).

Well that about covers the blogs that I read often..as I said before I’m sure there are a thousand others that I will eventually get to but I can’t read ‘em all…after all I am writing this at work and I am severely unproductive on this Friday afternoon.
On another subject…I was rifling through my old CD’s and decided to pack up the CD carrier for my Hellish commute to work. It’s actually hellish to and from work so I need some music (although lately I’ve been addicted to Sports-talk/political-talk radio lately). I have been know to like all forms of music although my favorite “type” of music is guitar-based. The only phase of music I didn’t go through is the whole pop/dance/trance crap that just turns me off. So before I go on a tangent I can’t get off of I found “Live at Leeds”-Remastered by ‘The Who’. I played it in the car and had my latest musical religious experience….I challenge anybody to come up with a better "Live" recording that captures a band in its prime. I’m not kidding…especially when tracks 10 and 11 are played at a loud volume. “Amazing Journey/Sparks” is a musical journey that only Keith Moon (the best natural drummer ever), Pete Townsend (one of the greatest rhythm-guitarist and lyric writers in rock history), John Entwistle (the best rock bassist ever), and Roger Daltrey (One of Rocks greatest singers) could take you on. I “Can’t explain” (haha)…how good it actually is but it has got to be the perfect arena rock recording. They also breathe life into their poppy-er recordings like “Happy Jack” and “Substitute”.
I also have to mention Randy Rhoads on “Blizzard of Ozz” and “Diary Of a Madman”..Two of the greatest guitar solos of all time were recorded by him in my opinion. “Over the Mountain” sounds like an electric orgasm if there ever was one. It’s so manic yet controlled I can’t believe it whenever I hear it. The other solo is on “Revelation Mother Earth”…this solo is so dramatic and fluid..it tells a story within the song..at least that’s what I hear when I listen to it. They both should have been extremely high on this list of the 100 greatest guitar solos…
I just realized that I’ve been reading/posting poker blogs for a couple of hours..WTF….see you on EmpirePoker !

I read a few Blogs everyday. they are posted as “The Best Poker Blogs” I’m positive that I will add more in the future but the current Blogs have something extra…I can relate to them in a big way. I have no idea why I do this (Blog) and I have no idea why anybody else would want to read it but therein lies the beauty of the internet. Post it and they will come! Well..Uh…maybe not but who gives a flying fuck. (BTW I don’t personally know any of the following people..but they impress me in different ways).
GuinnessandPoker – Iggy and his Uber-Posts are a must read…a propensity for Internet Poker and all things weird and humorous.
Tao Of Poker - The prolific writer that is Dr. Pauly…..Carving out a new profession and having fun doing it! (Hunter S. Thompson would be proud).
Lasvegasvegas – The Poker Prof …If there was ever a blog that makes you feel as if you were actually in Vegas. This is it!
ISDN – Chilly…I can relate to his blog..in a new parent kind of way. He is one funny bastard too.
Bill’s Poker Blog - Bill Rini…His analytical yet humorous way of looking at Poker is better than most.
DeadMoney=SirAlCantHang – Poker..booze..sports..music..all wrapped up in one fucked up package…Hilarious!
Well that about covers the blogs that I read often..as I said before I’m sure there are a thousand others that I will eventually get to but I can’t read ‘em all…after all I am writing this at work and I am severely unproductive on this Friday afternoon.
On another subject…I was rifling through my old CD’s and decided to pack up the CD carrier for my Hellish commute to work. It’s actually hellish to and from work so I need some music (although lately I’ve been addicted to Sports-talk/political-talk radio lately). I have been know to like all forms of music although my favorite “type” of music is guitar-based. The only phase of music I didn’t go through is the whole pop/dance/trance crap that just turns me off. So before I go on a tangent I can’t get off of I found “Live at Leeds”-Remastered by ‘The Who’. I played it in the car and had my latest musical religious experience….I challenge anybody to come up with a better "Live" recording that captures a band in its prime. I’m not kidding…especially when tracks 10 and 11 are played at a loud volume. “Amazing Journey/Sparks” is a musical journey that only Keith Moon (the best natural drummer ever), Pete Townsend (one of the greatest rhythm-guitarist and lyric writers in rock history), John Entwistle (the best rock bassist ever), and Roger Daltrey (One of Rocks greatest singers) could take you on. I “Can’t explain” (haha)…how good it actually is but it has got to be the perfect arena rock recording. They also breathe life into their poppy-er recordings like “Happy Jack” and “Substitute”.
I also have to mention Randy Rhoads on “Blizzard of Ozz” and “Diary Of a Madman”..Two of the greatest guitar solos of all time were recorded by him in my opinion. “Over the Mountain” sounds like an electric orgasm if there ever was one. It’s so manic yet controlled I can’t believe it whenever I hear it. The other solo is on “Revelation Mother Earth”…this solo is so dramatic and fluid..it tells a story within the song..at least that’s what I hear when I listen to it. They both should have been extremely high on this list of the 100 greatest guitar solos…
I just realized that I’ve been reading/posting poker blogs for a couple of hours..WTF….see you on EmpirePoker !

Poker Bonus/Bonus Whoring
Online Poker Bonus!
I have to admit that the bonuses on EmpirePoker and PartyPoker are much easier to obtain then say..PokerStars. Getting the PokerStars bonus was like pulling teeth..I got the last bonus during the WCOOP. I must’ve played 500 damn hands! I didn’t really count but it took a about 4 hours of constant play. The bonus was ridiculous…20%...crap. The new EmpirePoker bonus was 50%!!! It took 250 hands to get and at least half were folded hands. I have been killing the 25NL tables on Empire lately though…I got tired of the big tourneys so I figure I’ll build my bankroll again by sticking to the ring games. It’s still so tempting to go to those big tourneys where the buy-in is 6-11 bucks…
The way I figure this whole tourney to ring game/site comparison is that the ring games are much easier on Party/Empire and the tourneys are better on Stars/UB/Paradise ….just my take after playing online for a year and a half.

The RedSox are getting to me again....
I know this gets to me every year...even last year!! If they had Pedro the PUNK then they may have put away the Yanks a long time ago..Oh well. I know the RedSox piss me off almost as much as bloggers from St. Louis! I was at a game recently and my buddy and I had some great seats..then a guy from St. Louis came to sit next to us with his girlfriend. He was obnoxious but hilarious at the same time. We had some fun ribbing each other but soon the whole section we were sitting in started to get pissed off. I wasn't at all...I actually was entertained by the guy (his girlfriend was covering her face in embarrassment)..the Sox won and we all had a good time. I guess I should be happy that there are no more "1918!" chants from the Yankme fans. Thank god the Patriots started up again..and the Bruins for that matter. The St. Louis native was also an avid Pats hater like most from that area. The Sox however need to get their shit in gear and win the division because they won't get the wild card either. LETS GO REDSOX..LETS GO REDSOX!!

Baby Sitting...
Not too sure if this going to work but we’ll see………..
Using ‘Blogger for Word’…seems like a pretty cool plug-in for Microsoft Word. Anyway, lately I’ve been building my bankroll back up to semi-respectable level through PokerStars…mostly on the low-limit NL tables. I think I’ll just have to accept my low-limit level for a while. I used to make my money on the low limit tables and then blow it on the MTT’s. Sit’N’Go’s are usually profitable but those damned MTT’s are so tempting. I do like the low buy-in MTT’s for HE, OHi/Lo8, and the other games. I placed 27th out of 2,450 last week. It took 3 hours and monetarily was not worth it but the experience at a newer game is invaluable. I’m starting to really like the Hi/Lo games now…it’s good to round out your Poker skills anyway.
On a different note the wives wanted a night out from the kids. Even though ours is 4.5 months old she does deserve her nights out with the girls. We went to my buddies house and me and two of my best high-school buddies were there baby-sitting the kids while the wives went to get a good buzz. There were four kids there and the house was complete chaos!! My hopes of getting a quick card game were dashed after the first 3 hours of kids running around in a circle ‘Hepped up on Goofballs’. We were just happy when the wives came home so we could go to my buddy’s basement and start drinking beers heavily. Not that we weren’t before they came home but…..this all has premeditated motives involved here…
My buddy was asking why I was so quick to baby-sit….I simply stated…Foxwoods…Mohegan Sun!
We’re going to get a trip together really soon and ah…ya know my birthday is coming up at the end of October so I’m going to Foxwoods to try a few limit poker tables and a satellite or two for the World Poker Finals. Smart huh? Not that I don’t love to hang with my daughter but when the wife is happy….EVERYBODY IS HAPPY!!!

I haven't felt like this since 9-11....
Here I am bitchin' about Pocket Aces getting cracked.....Hurricane Katrina certainly is the worst natural disaster in the U.S. in my lifetime. The thing that really hits home is when you hear about babies dying of dehydration...I can't imagine the grief. I made a donation to the Red Cross Hurricane disaster relief fund...I will also play some of the charity tourneys on PokerStars (DoubleDave) is my PokerStars name..come play won't you! I am also going to give blood this week at my place of work. If everybody did all these things or even some of them it would certainly help in the very least. I think that a lot of the blame may lie in the Governors lap for each of these states that were affected. There SHOULD have been an emergency response from the state governments and governor that was faster than the federal governments response. The president and the federal government are responsible for the overall effort not the immediate response...just my two cents on the subject. Lets hope that when they rebuild New Orleans and the other affected areas that they do it right. This is after all not the first time this kind of devastation has happened in these areas...especially New Orleans where a devastating flood has happened an average of 35-40 years.
