Looking back...Looking forward....

As the year ends..my first year on this blog also ends...I first posted on Jan. 17th. This year has been the most incredible of my life so far. My daughter was born on May 5th. It was the most incredible thing to witness. She was born on May 5th...that's a date of 05/05/05! She's staring at me now as I type this post. More incredible is that my wife and I weren't sure if we'd ever be able to have a child.
Anyway...I've documented my beginnings as a card player thanks to my late Grandfather...his name was Ozzie.
I first started reading blogs in '04 that were locally done in Boston...they were interesting to a point but after a while I got bored with reading some liberal viewpoint to some random subject..I thought..there has got to be something more interesting. Then I came across a blurb in my googled poker search that said "Bonus Code Iggy". I thought.....what hell does that have to do with Poker? I soon stumbled into a world of Poker bloggers. Blogs that talk about Poker Strategy and random stuff related to Cards, Gambling, Music, Sports, and all other stuff I enjoy on a regular basis. There were people out there who think about these things the same way and in different ways than I do...and it became dynamic...not static like those old blogs. After all most of the blogs document more than just online poker and casino cards...they document life.
Soon after that I noticed the Tao Of Poker and my 'favorites' list on my Internet Explorer became packed with poker blogs. I started reading them with a fervor...and my so-called workplace productivity went from low to zero (I am sick of my job after 8 years and part of my New Years resolution is to do something about it).
At the beginning of the year I started my own blog and haven't regretted anything. It's a great way to escape the monotony of the daily grind...and a way to get things off my mind. I'm sure i've probably played against some blogger at Foxwoods this past year as well as online. Once in a while someone else will start talking about "dropping the hammer" of some other common term and you just know that they read the same blogs.
This year has also spurred an interest in other card games that I wanted to learn..like the Hi/Lo games and Razz. I haven't forayed to far into them but they provide an avenue that will keep me occupied and interested for years to come.
It's also interesting how some of the blogger out there are actually writers that get published! There have been poker strategy books/manuals and articles that have kept my non stop learning curve.

This coming year I expect more incredible blog posts..more poker than ever before...and due to the birth of my daughter I will play pocket fives like Aces!!
HAPPY NEW YEAR to All!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Time to make the Donuts! Well that time has sadly passed..RIP.. Dunkin Donuts is an icon up here in the Northeast. they must put Cocaine in their coffee its addictive and well…wait a minute..that guy is just an actor…forget it…

I’ve been playing a lot of NL 25 on PokerStars lately due to their double FPP’s for the rest of the year…also found the low buy-in Sit’N’Gos (Turbo) and cashing in most of them.

Looks like Empire Poker is making one last ditch attempt at glory…

I don’t know they screwed me out of a couple of potential bonuses after the PartyPoker split…and there is about 5,500 players on average there at primetime (9:00PM) so….

A lot of holiday stuff lately. I’m kind of glad to be back at work…nobody is here and I get to catch up on blogs that I usually can’t read…

Some good ones to add to my “Daily Reads” :

Poker Perspectives-Maudie  I played a tourney against her..one of the Stars blog events and she raised my blind and re-raised me every time I raised…watch out for this lady…very interesting reading as well…

LiveJournal-Felicia Lee  She has an opinion about most things and it is always right.

MissT74 – Tanya Peck…One Gambling girl who’s not afraid to piss off the “ladies”

All good stuff from these blogs…I needed to add the female perspective to the blogroll…and those are three of the best…

Merry Christmas to all.....

I hope everybody has a great Christmas and any other Holiday you might be celebrating at the current time. It's probably going to be fun to see Christmas through the eyes of my daughter for the first time.......like this

This time of year always brings back the memories of family...alive or not. I currently live in my Grandfathers old house with the wife and daughter. My grandfather passed away in '98 sometime right before Christmas (I believe it was the 19th). He's the one that taught us (my brother, sister, and I) to play card games (7 card stud, 5 card draw, obscure games like 45's etc.) when I was a little tyke. This of course spurred a life-long interest in card games, sports, and gambling (not in a bad way..he used to bring me to the horse track in Salem, NH a couple of towns away from here). He also used to take me to his social clubs of which I think he belonged to 3 or 4. He used to say "stay here and watch TV with your soda and snacks while I talk to the guys"...little did I know at the time he was playing cards...I figured it out later on in life. It was nice and safe at those clubs back in the mid seventies. I later went back to one of those clubs (Knights of Columbus) and won a charity tournament last year. It was fun to see the old place 30 something years later and take down a tourney full of old-timers and newly addicted hot-shots (some guy of course adopted the unabomber thing and some other guy wanted to be Josh Arieh after his 3rd place WSOP finish). I found countless packs of cards in this house as well as a great old poker/card table and other gambling stuff.

I know that I'm rambling on here but this is what I remember during the holidays...family, fun parties with the family and friends, and playing cards with a lot of competitive relatives. This house is small but there was always room for 30 people...and most of the kids were downstairs playing card games and shooting pool in the basement. My grandfather would always sneak away from the adults and find plenty of time to entertain all of us kids. I don't know how he managed to entertain both the adults and all the kids at what seems like the same time but he did. Actually I went to his grave in the same town and put a RedSox hat on his gravestone last year after they won the world series. Baseball was the only sport for him and he would have loved to see them win the series. Anyway...

Cheers to all on this Christmas holiday and don't forget distant relatives and people who are less fortunate. Send someone a card with a contact number just in case..if they don't call back then no harm-no foul. Donate something to a local soup-kitchen or charity...You'll feel better giving a gift like that than any other. There are plenty of good causes to donate to here in the United States and local charities in general...

With that said I am very thankful for everything in my life (except my job..I'll have to work on that) like my family, friends, future events with my family and friends, the blogger community (even though I haven't been to a WPBT event and may not be able to ever) and memories of recent and distant past.

Merry Christmas to all...and to all a good night!!

The Green Goddess Epiphany

I’ve been playing a lot of .10-.25 (NL25) on PokerStars lately…and doing well. Playing a lot of low buy-in MTT’s and not doing well at those. Last weekend I went to UB for a couple of their rebuy satellites and Turbo MTT’s…the last tourney was late at night…12:00 midnight (late for me now) I bubbled out at 8th..the payouts started at 7th. It all started when I picked up A-A with about 15 left. I had a decent chip-stack…I limp and some guy goes all-in with 7-7..of course I’m going to call…I had him covered by 1K…I lose when he flops a set of 7’s. I limp to the final table and a couple of players get knocked out right away…the other guy that flopped the set of sevens gets busted out and I laugh (he actually berated me when his flopped 7’s beat my A-A?) I get J-J under the gun and go all-in…some guy calls with A-A and knocks me out just barely out of the money…AGAIN! My aces go in cycles..Unbeatable for a month…can’t win with them for a month…
Insert T.J. Cloutier comment here…"That’s Poker…take your beat like a man..what are you gonna do?"

I finally cleared my bonus after what seems an eternity. PokerStars is becoming the mother of all Poker Sites. their bonuses don’t run out…so you can take your time and not worry about losing a potential bonus. I would probably do better in the MTT’s if I didn’t drink when I played them…it’s just that their so damn time consuming...or is it..beer consuming.
I’m currently fighting off a poker epiphany..it comes to me in the form of a beautiful green goddess and says “Stick to the ring games and you will build your bankroll..you dumb fuck” I drink a few more beers and forget the beautiful green goddess and I proclaim “One day I will win one of these 2,000 plus NL MTT’s!! Green Goddess be gone!! And she disappears in a cloud of green smoke POOF!! I wake up the next day a bit on the hungover side and find out I blew my wad that consists of a 5.00 NL unlimited for first hour rebuy MTT…BITCH!!
Wow I’m getting a little tilty here…must be the Holidays. MERRY CHRISTMAS…if that offends anybody then fuck off…I’m sick of being politically correct…..

How ‘bout them Patriots…HERE THEY COME BITCHES!!!

Low-limit hack Redux

Excuse my shoes they don't quite fit
They're a special offer and they hurt me a bit
Even my trousers are giving me pain
They were reduced in a sale so I shouldn't complain
They squeeze me so tight so I can't take no more
They're size 28 but I take 34
I'm on a low budget
What did you say
I'm on a low budget
I thought you said that
I'm on a low budget
I'm a cut price person in a low budget land
-The Kinks

I'm back to being the low-limit hack that I'm supposed to be on PokerStars and UB. After the sickness has passed through my house I'm ready to get back to the NL tables. I forayed into the NL MTT's again last weekend and paid for it in Spades!!

NL MTT 10+1 on PokerStars Saturday night (snowed in for the weekend basically)...First hour is raise or fold for small pots....
second hour...dealt K-10 o and a flop of K-K-7 comes...I bet 200...limpers fold....one caller...2 on the turn...the one caller bets 400...I call...8 falls on the river...he goes all-in...I call..what does the donkey have? pocket 8's....nice way to begin my night of tourney futility. I guess I should have gone all-in at the turn but I know that he would have called anyway since he had more chips.
Couple more 5.00-10.00 MTT's and more bustouts...
NL rebuy-3.00 on UB...I raise all-in with junk..get called...rebuy a couple more time and go all-in with A-Q...I take a huge pot when two callers go all-in and I'm on my way...60 people started the night but after raising myself to a large chip-stack I get knocked out 17th at 4:00AM..I don't recall the play by play of the hand due to massive amounts of beer but I do remember getting knocked out by some kind of straight draw when I had a set of Q's...sucko...
After getting my balls kicked in for night I go to bed and realize that I haven't cashed in a MTT buy-in above 10.00 in six months or something...I've been doing fine at the $1-3.00 buyins and the $5-10.00 Sit'N'Go's.

"Back to the drawing board"...you think that saying was made by some riverboat gambler in the mid 1800's or what?

Low-limit NL is and always has been my bread'n'butter for my bankroll. I do occasionally go to the 2-4, 3-6 limit tables but not too often..I haven't played those since my daughter was born over seven months ago...I have no idea why...I think it's probably that I don't keep a large bankroll on multiple sites like I used to. I do occasionally get to Foxwoods and have done quite well when I play live. I made plenty of cash playing both 2-4 limit hold'em and 1-2 NL (Nofoldem HE). I've also cashed in a couple Charity tourneys...one I had to chop with the chip leader for 2nd place cash...believe me I could play a tourney every Monday and Tuesday night but...

Looks like PokerStars is getting almost as popular as Party now...I do believe that it is due to their marketing but there's something to be said for their customer service. It is by far the best of the sites...Hands down...that means a lot to a low-limit hack and breeds loyalty...you listening PartyPoker Pidgeons?

Daycare is the bane of my existence...

Not that anybody reads this blog or anything but I haven't posted for a while for a reason. My 7 mo. old daughter just had an upper respiratory infection (aka..The "Croup") that she caught from daycare. As if it doesn't cost enough..it's a damn mortgage payment! She was in tough shape this week though..nothing like seeing your child cry and cough all night and not be able to do anything about it. I tried to feed her a bottle last night and after she finished the whole thing it came out projectile style all over me....nasty! Since Sept. She's had a bad cold, Conjunctivitis, and now the "Croup". We went to the emergency room at 5:30AM on Monday...she's doing well now though...so I haven't been doing much lately.
There was huge snowstorm here in the Northeast today...we must have had 12-18" of snow outside..and it's not even winter yet..doh!

I did sneak in a few NL MTT tourneys on UltimateBet though...their Turbo and Ultra Turbo MTT's and great for someone who needs a poker fix. The NL MTT's on PokerStars are great but there are so many players that it takes hours upon hours to get to the money. I was in a Limit MTT last Saturday...got knocked out at about 140 but I saw SirFWALGMan doing well and I think he placed 3rd...not bad dude! I did play the Hubble NL MTT freeroll latenight and busted out at around 110 or so...there were more that 5,000 entries!! but only 27 get into the big tourney so I was short-stacked and went all-in with K-10 offsuit....what can I say...I needed chips and also needed to get lucky.

Goals for this month:
Cash in some PokerStars MTT's with bigger buyins..last month I did well but the buyins were small 1-3.00 for each.
Get a home game going at my buddy's house...they are a lot of fun when everybody wants to play and we'll have at least 8 people.
Play a charity tourney and cash in it..there will be some actually after the new year..so maybe not this month.
Play more freerolls..
Win the lottery...
Find a million dollars in the street...etc.

OK...3 out of 6...

I am in 3 ESPN fantasy football leagues and I made the playoffs in all three...not bad..I also vaulted in 770th place in the espn UBER overall standings..not bad considering there are hundreds of thousands of fantasy gamers on ESPN.

The sports teams in Boston this year :

Patriots let Ty Law walk and they desperately need DB's (Although the injuries are the real story here).
RedSox are going to have to trade Manny Ramirez...better get value for him or D. Ortiz is going to suffer.
Bruins trade Joe Thornton for a bag of pucks and a zamboni driver..stupid fucks! (Jeremy Jacobs you should go back to Buffalo and buy the Sabres...you're 30 year reign of mediocrity should end soon).
Celtics...are they going to trade away Paul Pierce? I wouldn't put it past them but they seem to be building for the future.

I feel I'm missing an incredible weekend out in Vegas right now.....

Donkey Days

And I always thought this would beThe land of milk and honeyOh but I come to find out that its all hate and moneyAnd there's a canopy of greed holding me down
…..Tones of Home (Blind Melon)

I played really late on Sunday night…1:30AM…late for me because of my 9-5 job.  The reason?....a 1.00 entry fee to PokerStars Limit Seven Card stud MTT. I really love these low buy-in MTT’s…great practice for the bigger buy-in tourneys. They are also great for learning a different game other than HE (Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo..Omaha Hi/Lo) in a tournament format.  I placed 10th out of 477 for a whopping $5.80…better than nothing I guess. Wait a minute that’s pretty good rate of return for a low-limit hack!

Last night I was tired..but of course not tired enough to ‘not’ fire up the PokerStars NL crack pipe. I buy-in for the max 25.00 to a .10-.25 NL HE table that needed one more player. Within the span of 1 hour I am up 180XBB!! I’m going to have to find these two donkeys that were on the table that gave me 95% of these winnings. Loose/Aggressive players…priceless. There were two hands in particular that amounted to these ridiculous pots that I took down.

  1. I’m in the 8th seat of a full table and get A-Ko (I noticed earlier that one of the two donkeys had A-Ko and raised to 1.00 driving out all 4 limpers)…and raise to 1.00. Everybody folds (3 limpers) except donkey number one. He calls and a flop of K-8-3 off suite falls…I raise another 1.00 and he calls that. The turn is another K….and I raise another 3.00…he re-raises another 10.00! I figure he has K-8 or K-3…he must…right? I go all-in (I can’t fold A-K with a board like that)…he calls immediately and turns up K-10o..I take down a massive pot.

  2. I’m in late position with Ad-As and call the BB along with 5 others…a flop of K-7-x off suite falls. 3 limpers in front check and the guy to my immediate right bets 1.00. I re-raise 5.00….and donkey number two goes all-in…??? I call and he shows A-2o after the turn and river. He didn’t even have a pair or any draw at anything…what a tool.

I will be looking for these two when PokerTracker pulls all the results for this awesome session of low-limit NL.  All I was doing was playing for my latest PokerStars bonus and lo’ and behold I get an early Christmas Present. Happy Turkey-Day to all and to all a good night!!!

Football Sunday

I'm kicking serious ass in my fantasy football leagues. I had the foresight to pick up Larry Johnson from the Chiefs because I knew that Priest Holmes wouldn't play the whole season. (Sigh) it's tough being this good. Those Philly Eagles really suck...I feel bad for D. McNabb he's too good to have to deal with Drew Rosenhouse..Or T. O. My Patriots are doing well today...We as N.E. Fans are very fortunate for having a team and a coach dedicated to winning.

Not much in the Poker scene lately..Although I will probably be playing online at PokerStars while this is going on at 7:00 PM tonight on "60 Minutes". Here we go again...I-gaming is illegal..blahblahblah..I think they should separate online poker from their argument..It's just not the same as slots or roulette or whatever other games are played online. However..My experience is that it is a lot easier to call a bet with an A-7 offsuit online than it is at a table with someone staring at you with a large chipstack and others to act behind you.
I'm getting itchy for a home game really soon. I'll have to get something going on the Thanksgiving weekend. Happy Turkey-Day to all..

Tourney from Friday the 11th

Went to the charity tourney for UNICO in the merrimack valley...Actually it Indian Head country club and there were about 80-85 entries. I didn't get close to the money but I had fun. I did get an all-in call from a guy that didn't really know how to play..I ended up with quad J's after the fourth J fell on the river. It was down to about 40 people left when I found A-Jd and had to go all-in (blinds would have put me all-in next hand). The guy next to isolation raises and puts another guy in a bind. The guy says "nice isolation raise" and mucks his two 9's face up! The guy who isolation raised had 2 9's!! I was in great shape to double up....but this isn't the internet and although two more diamonds flopped giving me 15 outs I still didn't improve and got knocked out. I talked to one "kid" before the tourney..He placed 4th in the World Poker finals 1,000 entry NL hold'em last week..He won the entry through another charity tourney at a castle earlier in the year...write up is here ....This is the tourney where I got "godsmacked" by the lead singer of the band. He can play and he can back it up!..the picture is hilarious though and he says that he takes a lot of shit because of it...I think it looks like he just got off of a 3 day bender.

I should rename this blog "Charity Poker" because it feels like I donate more than I should!! I have cashed a couple of times though..Once in a chop for first. It's such a good vehicle for raising money especially lately. Massa-friggin-chusetts laws are prohibitive though and they make it hard to raise the maximum amount of money. No rebuy tourneys as of June 30th, 2005 has killed a lot of fundraising. I really like the idea of the philanthropy and poker combining for all sorts of charities. I guess when I saw my wifes best friend die from a different form of Lymphoma that she suffered from 10 years earlier....It sort of changed the way I looked at the whole fundraising idea. We named out daughter "Cara" in memory of her. She was supposed to be one of the Maids of Honor at our wedding and her sickness prevented that. We went to a fund raiser for the Neely house last night called "comics come home" ...it was hilarious. Dennis Leary, Lenny Clarke, Adam Ferrara...and a host of other comedians from the Northeast we're performing at the "Agganis Arena" at Boston University. Back in the day when newly annointed to the hockey hall-of-fame Cam Neely was in his prime he had to deal with both his parents passing away from Cancer. Soon after he met my wifes best friend "Cara" who was sick for the first time with some form of lymphoma (she literally became the Poster child or in this case billboard child of the Dana Farber Cancer Institute) and asked her to be a fund raiser for the Neely house. She declined at the time and went on to become a fund raiser for Tufts Universities Labs or something like that. Her parents have setup a foundation in her memory here . Ten years later my wife and I who were engaged asked her to be a Maid of honor at our planned wedding and she bacame sick again with another rare form of cancer. It's a very sad story but one that changes ones outlook on life. Massachusetts is going to miss out on some very good fundraising opportunities but I guess they will lose the opportunity to New Hampshire which is 5 miles away from where I live.

Other miscellany:

Haven't played a lot online recently due to my new "getting up earlier routine" to help out the wife with my daughter. I might just start playing the drunks earlier in the morning that have played through the night before. I used to play all night but when you have an infant in the house it's damn near impossible to do that. I'm looking for a reload bonus on Party but they haven't had one recently.
If someone wants to vent rage you can go to RGP and just tell everybody that their an asshole everytime someone posts. That's what seems to happen every time someone puts up a post. There seems to be a "clique" mentality on there and there are only a few posters who don't get insulted on a regular basis. It is funny once in a while but it gets old fast.
I may just have to redeposit to UB..I've won the most money on tournaments on UB by far over the other sites....I have no idea why The huge low buy-in tourneys on Stars are really good for practicing against big fields but the cash-ins are pretty low for me. They are also good for the large field-low buyin tourneys for Omaha Hi/Lo 8 and Seven card Stud.

Charity Tourney and other stuff

There was another poker club raided in the Northeast recently. They were playing for a seat in the World Poker Finals at Foxwoods. I think I'll play this charity tourney on Friday night...which I believe will also have a buy-in to the WPF for 1st prize.

On another note..I've been playing a ton of the low buy-in MTT's on PokerStars lately..placing in a bunch but just over the bubble..not near the real money at the final tables...

My EmpirePoker playing days may be over really soon...unless they give me the bonus that they advertised..I think it was for playing raked hands from 10/30-11/4. I probably played 600-700 hands and I don't see anything yet..better make it soon or I am moving my pathetic balance somewhere else!! This is probably the second such "phantom bonus" that they have offered recently and me thinks it has something to do with the impending PartyPoker takeover?! Let's hope that they get this done soon and good times will be had by all again.

I can't keep up with all the new Poker Blogs out there...there are so many with so much to offer...I wonder how many are from the New England area...shoot me an email at vze2tbkc@verizon.net if you have one. I'm always looking for more poker/stuff to read.

I want to play all these Blogger tourneys that have been setup recently but the family commitments take precedence. I had to miss the Online Blogger Championship (folded my way to 650th or somewhere around that number) and other recent blogger tourneys. It would be cool to have one on Friday night at 9:30 (that's when the wife and baby are both sleeping). I got a chance to help my buddy drink his freshly reloaded keg-erator this Sunday...man I wish I had one of those. It is just so much easier than recycling cans/bottles and only needs to be reloaded every now and then.

This is pretty funny...the new hockey fans..

Foxwoods Trip Report

It’s much more fun to play a live game…especially when you’re drunk…and it’s your birthday! I was at Foxwoods on Sunday the 30th..And played until the 5:00AM on the 31st. I got a room with two beds and tried to upgrade to a suite to no avail. There were four of us there but I knew that I was going to be playing poker all night so by the time I got back to the room I was happy just to crash on the floor. I think I played a 9.5 hour session at a 1-2 NL table starting at 7:30PM. Let’s see if I can recreate the table by memory. I was sitting across from the dealer. To my left was a late 20’s dude that would say “raizzzzzzzzzzze” every time he got a hand. It was a slow controlled tone..The same “raizzzzzzzze” even when he bet…..some of the guys at the table were ribbing him when he bet and said “raizzzze”..They said “bettttttt” and started laughing hysterically…he didn’t think it was funny. He also didn’t think it was funny when I spilt my beer on my leg and splashed all over him…you see I was one of the “Drunk guys” at the table..After all it was my birthday and I was drinking a lot of beers. To his left was a young guy that had a decent chip stack that fluctuated a lot throughout the night..I was the reason that guy left the table when he went all-in and I called with two pair (that was about 3:00AM or so). He was a good kid but when I got there and announced to everybody that I only play on the internet (I sometimes do this to get some loose calls and they generally don’t respect internet players for some reason) and it was my first time playing live he snickered and looked to his left. To his left was another twenty-something guy that was somewhat excited to here me say “I’ve only played on the internet”. That guy was better than his friend on the right and he was there all night as well with a decent chip stack. He had a talent for putting people on hands like my Q’s when I threw out a large bet. To his left was one of my high school buddies younger brothers who is a 30 year old physical therapist/body builder and likes to gamble (well all my friends like to gamble but he’s the only one that is a poker player like myself). His chip stack fluctuated quite a bit and was down about 250.00 when we left at 5:00AM. I think he re-bought three or four times…with a 100.00 max buy-in that can get pricey. To his left was the dealer or dealers…they switched every hour…and collected the 5.00 per hour rake when they sat down. This was much better than the rake on the 2-4 limit HE tables that I’ve played at Foxwoods previously. To the Dealers left was a friggin’ nightmare for tight players and easily frazzled players. I realized how tight I play live but I was “Drunk Guy” so he was actually entertaining and tilt inducing for some of the players. This kid (20-something) would “staddle bet” a lot and kept talking as if he was coked out of his head. I think he was your typical Ridlin popping A.D.D. brat when he was younger. Nevertheless he was kind of annoying times but had some interesting tricky plays. His chip stack was small and he was happy to have a few bucks when he left the table at 5:00AM..I think he just likes putting everybody on tilt and being the center of attention.
To his left was the “shaved-head-tattoo-guy”. He liked to make forceful bets with a sort of threatening stare. It was kind of funny because he scared nobody and left at 4:30AM with Nothing! To his left was the “Phil Ivey look-alike guy” who actually resembled Phil in his stack of chips..he must have had at least 1200 in chips when he left at 12:00 and we were at a max 100.00 buy-in table so he left when things got a little crazy. Come to think of it….he resembled the guy in that video by the Fine Young Cannibals…you know the lead singer that says “She drives me crazaayyyyyyayyy”. To his left was a small frail looking 30-ish dude with Space goggles….he was wearing a baseball hat and these ridiculously huge sunglasses and he looked like a fool! He was actually a pretty good player but everybody got quite a chuckle at his “Space-bug” look. He left at around 2:00AM with some chips although not many. For some reason I can hardly remember the guys sitting to his left and my right…I think that a bunch of players jumped in both seats all night…one was a Chinese guy and one was an 50’s-ish guy but nobody sat there for more than a couple of hours. One guy sitting in that seat actually spilled his beer on the table…the card room managers and brushes ran over and asked if we wanted to move but everybody wanted to stay put….there was a few TV’s with the Patriots on them at that point in the night and Tedi Bruschi came back so everybody wanted to keep up with the score and the game in general. How did I do?…I bought in for 100.00 fluctuated up and down for the first few hours…and left with 400.00. I’d say pretty well…considering it was a crazy 1-2 NL table. I’m starting to realize how tight I play live….I must have not of had a high flop-seen ratio. This table was full of characters and I had a great time so I think I’m going to be going down to Foxwoods sometime in the near future again. The world Poker finals were starting this weekend but most of the tourneys were either early in the AM or had qualifiers that seemed easy to get into. I didn’t do any of them…I was just happy to be playing at the table I was at. I think you would have to be staying there for a while to be in one of their tourneys..I got there at 3:30 on Sunday and left at 10:30 AM on Monday so there really wasn’t time to plan a tourney into my stay. Had a hangover when I left with 300.00 more than I started with so the last two times at Foxwoods I’ve left with about 1500.00 of their money. The 1200.00 from the previous visit was all from Blackjack and that was a whole different story.

Empire Poker

I was away on a vacation weekend with my wife and daughter in North Conway, NH not too long ago. I being an online addict, brought my laptop and a dial-up internet service with us. My wife glances a skeptical glance at me.......
Wife : "online poker after we go to sleep?"
Me : "It's for checking and changing the fantasy sports league settings...Of course!"
Wife : "uh-huh...So you're not going to play poker?..I mean I don't care if you do but..."
Me : "You two will be sleeping anyway so....."
Wife : "Make sure you can get up at a semi-normal hour tomorrow...ya know like 10:00AM!"
Me : "OK..OK...I will be playing internet poker but I won't drink too many beers....(blatant lie)"
I proceed to kill a bud-light twelve pack during a marathon session of Empire Poker. I did notice that the player count went from about 18,000 on a busy night to an average of about 9,000 active players...that PartyPoker split has hit them hard. I think a lot of the players left are not necessarily good....'Donkeys' if you will. I was killing the NL-PL sit'n'go's...five straight...5.00+1.00 buy-in tables...5,3,1,1,1,...three straight first place sit'n'go's...I have to go for four right? It was about 2:00AM and I had to keep this going...the sixth had to go about 1.5 hours...3:30AM...drunk...come in 3rd...what a night! These Empire Sit'n'go's are soft!! I of course get up at 11:00AM the next day. It was pouring out all weekend (Veterans Day Weekend).

Last weekend I had to miss the PokerStars Blogger championship...no comment...I did however get knocked out at about 645th or something close to that.....the folding phantom...I ended up beating more than half the field?!! It just occured to me that I have a terrible problem with run-on sentences...I've had that problem my whole life!! Fuck it! it's a blog...

Well the Sox did win the world series!...oh sorry wrong sox..but I'm glad for them. 1917 is a lot of years to listen to the 'holier than thou' Cub fans...1908...that just doesn't look right. There was probably a lot of Bi-Sox-sual fans here in Boston this year...the parallels were kind of freaky for both teams. But the Cubs are the only 'Cursed' team left...what's up with the stupid 'Billy-Goat' curse anyway..can't think of anything better? I would however like to get to Wrigley Field sometime in my life...I hear it's like going to Fenway Park but much different...whatever that means.

more blogs that I've added to my daily reads :

Fish Soup : Soxlover...Boston boy? goes through his Poker adventures.
Doubleas : Doubleas....More analytical yet humorous poker stuff.
The Obituarium : Joe Speaker...What more can I say that he hasn't already said!

All good stuff from these guys...

I'm going to make everybody sick!!!

First I am going to bring home a contagious cold from Daycare! Then I'm going to give it to both mommy and daddy!! Then a week later I am going to get Conjunctivitis.....and also give that to mommy and daddy!! HEEHEEHEEEEE!! My plan has worked so far...oh yeah and I'm also starting the teething process...therefore I will start screaming for no apparent reason. But look how cute I am!! No one will suspect me and even if they did what can they do about it...HEHEHEEEE!! It's the perfect plan...I am going to have to thank my baby buddy Stewie from "the Family Guy" He has coached me to be the cutest little villain-girl yet! Supposedly daddy is going to play poker at Foxwoods on his birthday this Sunday....hmmmm...maybe I'll let him go without a guilty conscience this time...but only this time! I hope he wins a lot so he can buy me that new hat that covers up my little bald head.

I got this idea from Chilly at IDSN..I give him credit because I don't want him to sit on me!Posted by Picasa

What makes a good poker blog?

Things that make a good poker blog ( this has already been done before but hey..nobody said I was the most creative dude in the world) :
1. Total recall...or a good memory so you can document your Poker experiences good or bad. If you can't memorize it write it down! ((People who read blogs will probably be interested in the details).
2. Be honest with your opinions and stories (anybody could lie about something but it doesn't do you any good to lie to yourself).
3. Have an opinion! After all it is your blog!
4. Have a sense of Humor! (This may well be the most important thing about a poker blog or blog in general).
5. Always give credit for your references to people or other blogs (my whole blog is basically due to other blogs I read often).
7. Open yourself to criticism and be open to suggestion whether it be a strategy or opinion. This goes for Poker and life in general...if you don't know what's wrong you can't fix it!

ahhhhh...fuck it...I can't pretend to do this...I guess I'm not going to win a fleece from PokerStars because my list of things that make a great poker blog are like stating the obvious...go read this by Joe Speaker. I cannot and will not even try to top this one! While you're at it...check out the rest of the blogs under my "The Daily Reads" list and you will come to your own conclusion as to what makes a great poker blog!!!!!!!!!
