Micro-limit fun

I bubbled the Mookie. Standard. From this point forward I will not get to the final table with less than 10K. Like I said yesterday..."playing the Mookie is like sticking your junk into a blender". I quote myself therefore I am. I did however have lots of fun at the micro-limit 7-game table. I one outer'd Numb on the river on a limit HE hand....classic. In all fairness I had Aces so you can't really blame me for calling all the way down...especially after being challenged over the vast public intertubewaves of BDR. I just may have to visit the 7-game micro limit table more often. It will have to suffice instead of the WPBT mixed game at the MGM Grand....because I can't go....WAAHHHH.

...and then there were 300.....that is the number of posts on this verbal dumping ground! I wish I had some kind of story to tie in with the 300th post and my weird fascination with Mediterranean based myths...but I don't. I've been playing a ton on PStars lately and have been doing quite well. I think I'll miss the Silver VIP status though. I think I need another 300 points of something by the time the 31st is done. The baby and the 3+ year old have been taking all of my time....I mean....where the F has the summer gone? It's almost August and it doesn't even feel like I've been out of the house. My vacation week isn't until the 3rd week of August...at least we are staying at a local beachhouse. Local being Salisbury beach.....I'm looking forward to that. Although I get the antsy for some poker while there and there is no phone line on my side of the cottage. I guess I'll have to break down and buy one of those Verizon wireless cards. Last year I was like a sick poker junkie running around the cottage desperately trying to keep a wireless connection for more than a half hour.
On Monday night I went a little off kilter and bought into some tourneys that I've never bought directly into before. The 100+9 and a bunch of those 30+3 NLHE tourneys. I got taken to school.....stayed up all night....and have nothing to show for it. I do however want to jump back on to Full Tilt for some Donk-tacular action. This is probably not good for my bankroll as I've never won anything on Full Tilt except a Bloggerment. Well I'm a glutton for punishment and the ultimate Donk-fest...the Mookie and probably the Dookie tonight! I'll leave the juicy (fast) no-limit tables and low limit NLHE tourneys for some silly Full Tilt suckouts. This is usually the other way around for most bloggers but PokerStars>Full Tilt for me. Speaking of 300...anyone want to swap 300 from my Stars account with 300 from their Full Tilt account??? Actually don't answer that just yet I'm gonna ask another local first!

Celtics won their series against the Hawks.....barely....I didn't watch a single game from the series....I guess I'm just not much of a basketball fan. Unless they go to the finals that is...but how likely is that?

The Red Sox are going to win the world series again this year! You heard it here first and definitely not last.

I won more in a Push fest last week in 20 minutes then I would have if I played for 3 hours in the Mookie....I think top 8 started at 60 or something. There is something really wrong with that...but yet really right.

My daughter turned 3 years old today....she was born on 05-05-05 (such a cool birth date). She also sprained her ankle yesterday at my parents house. She was imitating her old cousin by jumping off a chair...ouch My next daughter will be born within the next 3 and a half weeks. Time to build that moat with alligators and piranhas around the house!!!

I am playing M.A.T.H. tonight and I will not chop! UNLESS OF COURSE I HAVE NO FUCKING CHOICE!!!!

I watched a lot of the last heads up championship on Sunday. It must be nice to be Orel Hersheiser....I mean....You get to the top of one profession (because you are the best) and then because you have tons 'o money you can get into one of the top tournaments in another profession (and get a poker site deal to boot?....Boris Becker et al). Then you get tons of acclaim (everybody kisses your ass) and go on to cash one of the top spots on national TV. Must be nice......

The Bodog 5K is a secret no longer......I even made a final table and placed 4th last week!

I love the BBT...and everything that surrounds it. I'm glad I will be able to play most of the tournament the rest of the way (unlike the whole first month). The newborn baby will arrive 1-2 weeks before the TOC so fear not ( I know most have no fear of playing me!)....I will be playing.

I have no idea most of my biggest tournament wins have been 6-max NLHE....but I should be exploring that more in depth!

The wife knows there is a sliver of a possibility that I could win a seat into the WSOP ME.......and said that I would have to go if I did...so did everybody else. Lets face it...I know my chances are slim at BEST...but with a family like mine....I could go if given the chance.

I haven't been playing well lately. I was distracted Monday night while playing M.A.T.H. and watching MNF and I called all in with a really bad hand. I did this once before and said never again in a tournament situation...I called anyway. I actually won the hand but it was more than improbable. I shouldn't watch the Patriots or the Red Sox while playing against good players.....I was embarrassed by the play. I'm going to have to learn from my mistakes the first time around and never make that mistake again...that's what makes a good player. Learn from your mistakes....once is enough let alone twice.

Moving on.....The best call I ever made was going to Las Vegas on Friday! My itinerary is as follows :

I got Bodonked out of the Bodonkey! I was chipping up nicely when my Kings were raised....I re-raised...was re-raised...and went all in. I was called by J's.....and a J on the turn knocked me out...that sucks. I hope my Aces and Kings hold up when I play some live poker again. I haven't played in a live setting for a while. Looking forward to the WPBT Winter Classic! Looks like there are already over 120 players. This should be memorable. I have never met anybody in the WPBT....but I will call on Friday and meet some people anyway....I don't care. I'll be in Vegas with cash and a place to stay so.....I'm ready to rip it up. I still can't believe how cool of a wife I have...I am a lucky man. Not only did she agree I should go...she made the travel plans for me! That my friends is fantastic. There are quite a few people who still can't believe that I'm going to Vegas by myself to meet people that I've never met before. They look at me with this (head-tilted-to side-I'm-so-confused-look) look and say something like "what are you crazy or something"! I mean I'm not expecting anything...I'm just gonna go with it. Whenever I go to Foxwoods with friends I usually disappear to the Poker Room anyway. I'm used to seeking out a poker game by myself whether it was the charity tourneys that I frequented, the Foxwoods Poker room, or the awesome bar league in Haverhill, MA. I'm gonna miss that place now that I moved from Lawrence to Wakefield. No more Thursday night NL tournament! None of my friends know about my blog...I mean....none of my good friends play poker! It's really hard to get a game going unless we play the mindless home games. Don't get me wrong...a good game of 'Screw your neighbor' is fun....but to play a tourney and maybe some mixed games against good players is not a common thing. Even some of the charity poker rooms are a complete crap shoot. I will be playing the 'Mookie' on Wednesday night...but not RiverChasers on Thursday..I need to get up around 4:00AM on Friday!

Bought a new house....

Still haven't sold the one I am currently in. I'll need to get that done before August 31st. Selling my NH condo. in NH. Will be moving into said bought house in Wakefield at the end of summer. My summer is going just swell...how about yours? That is the stress that has surrounded me the last month. I was actually glad the BBT didn't last any longer than it did....I needed my life back! Hopefully I can relax this coming week....I will do my best to remain drunk, fat and stupid during it. I can't forget about the BBT free roll though.....It will be guns a blazin! I really porked myself in the Mookie this week. My final table play definitely needs work....it has been pointed out before. I do realize I need work on my end game....that much is true. I seem to have no problem when playing live with my final table play.......but it is so much easier to make a bad play online. I need to get my hands off the mouse....and think....for more than a Milli-second. Make a good decision and stick with it. No calls....either raise or fold. Simple. Effective. Yet hard for me to execute at a final table online. It can mean a win, a higher cash, or a bubble finish like I did in this weeks Mookie.
My final thoughts on the BBT echo that sentiment. Some people did play for points....I played for cash and came out a whopping 35.00 and change ahead for the whole thing. It was a great idea and opened my eyes to a lot of different playing styles. It opened up my game (aggression, raising and betting)and exposed the worst part or parts (final table play, calling raises out of position)of it. The end game....it needs a lot of work. The first month was a lot of bad play by me...not a lot of patience. I got a lot more patient in the second month and made quite a few final tables. The third month brought out some play that I am not proud of but that is part of the growing process. I have to say that I made the final table in both Big Games I played in. If not for a bad suck out in the first one...I could have cashed for a whole lot more....but those are just sour grapes. After 3 years of sporadic play in tourneys live and online.....I realize just how much there is to learn. I don't know if I will be able to do something like that after I move into my new house though. It's gonna stretch the budget a bit. I think that the next BBT if there is one....should take place during the late winter-early spring. You know...when its cold and crappy outside and everybody is just itchin' to play online. People are busy and on vacation most often in the summer so...a lot of tourneys were missed from prior commitments. So final kudos to Al, Hoyazo, and Mookie for getting the whole thing going. Also to MiamiDon for putting the biggest prize pools out there for bloggers to scratch and claw over.

Last night I went back to 'Slickey's'(name changed to protect innocent) and the bar league NLHE tournaments that have a great structure for 40 bucks. I was in first place after two weeks and I missed the first week! I chopped for first prize last week. This week I was rolling right along building my chip stack and not losing any big pots. There were about 15 people left and I am on the button. The blinds were at 800-1200 and I raised the twice the BB......I had about T6500 in chips and the raise committed me because I had As-Ad! The SB goes all-in immediately and has me covered (because he previously went all-in with an ace of spades and four flushed to get about T8,000 in chips). The BB folds....and I obviously call the rest of chips with my Aces. The luck box flops a fucking Q and I am done. I was about to make a huge run to my second final table and first place standing in the league and my luck box friend flops his two outer....Damn that stings. I've been playing great lately but that one hurt. I came home all charged up and fired up the PC. I opened Full Tilt and PokerStars and looked at a couple of tourneys including the midnight madness tourney....I decided to shut it down and go to sleep. It was the best decision I made all week.

Destroying the Dookie....gettin' slapped in the Mookie

OK so I didn't destroy the Dookie......but I won. I had to out-flop one very large-stacked Lucko....so it wasn't easy. I had a nice comeback win after being the short-stack at the final table. I love Pot Limit Omaha HiLo.....love it! It is such a tough game but gets the gamble out of us....especially the Turbo format. My secret for PLO HiLo is fold your K's unless you can limp in.....or unless there is more than two people involved in the pot. I had K's somewhere around 6 times and folded 'em every single time. Don't leave home with an ace in hand. Simple. I played terrible in the Mookie as usual....what else is new. I started the BBT pretty badly.....I went on a heater and cashed in all different tourneys. I Made the points in all different tourneys. I forgot the devastating suckout I took at the last Big Game....that sucked....or else I could have cashed for a shitload. Last night I just made bad calls...plain and simple. I hope to finish out the BBT with a bang or two. Cashing in the Big Game would go far for me as my progress as a blonkey-donkey. Anybody else think that it would be a good idea to maybe include the WPBT into the BBT format next fall or something? It seems a shame to let the WPBT go down in flames.
I think I'm going to be doing a lot of Real Estate sales and purchases soon so......I may have to slow down on the online poker. My family and I are going to be moving somewhere closer to Boston soon. We have our eye on this nice house in Wakefield, MA. We'll see what happens...I'm not sure how fast I can sell my beloved Mountain condo. or house in Lawrence. I want to know what it is like to take my time commuting to work. I'm sick of wasting so much time in the damn car...sick of it! I might actually have some extra time on my hands for once.
Tonight I might play the old bar league tourney that is so much fun. I've made a ton of money over the tourneys that i've played at 'Slickey's'. I come in and piss everybody off because they are vying for points in a league. The song 'Strange Days' just seems to fit everyday life now.....more than ever. I don't know why but I keep thinking of this song whenever I look at or read the paper or cable news....or Internet news blogs etc. Well, off that tangent and on to another more entertaining one.....the BBT! The following tourneys are designed to freak you out and test your MTT tournament skill whilst playing against some of the best. Lately I've been playing for the final table and not the points.....the main point is to make the money anyway. I see some serious tight-ass play around the points bubble and my thought is.....MAKE THE MONEY....and the major points will come! Play for the final table instead of just the points. Everybody reading this will think "duh....that's obvious"...well...I'm not so sure that it is. I wanted to post this on Monday and add M.A.T.H. (one of the toughest tourneys if not the toughest to beat) to the following list but it's getting busy here at work and it is now Wednesday...............................that means the Mookie! I'm surprised that more people don't show up for the Mookie. It would be interesting to see more than 100 entries.....including the regulars and maybe some people that are searching for random tourneys on the Internet. Well, if you are one of those roving Internet MTT journeydonkeys then sign up.....it's only 11 bucks. Don't forget about the Riverchasers Online Tour tourney #12 on Thursday either (as I'm typing this the Doors song 'Back Door Man' burst out the office stereo........weird.....that would have been crazy if it was 'Strange Days').

Mondays M.A.T.H. tourney was pretty short for me....I think I went out at 23 of 35. GCox wiped me out with his pocket K's....I had pocket 10's. I thought he might have A-x....but I was toast. I should have been more careful since he was seemingly on a rush. He came back from about T500 in chips and was picking up some serious pots before he knocked me out. Lucko was of course putting on a NLHE tourney clinic and eventually won. He seems to have a solid read on me every time I'm in a pot with him. I think I've changed my game and become much better in the past two years....except when I play a pot against him. I'll have to change it up even more I guess. Cracknaces is also kickin' some serious donkey (ass) lately. I might have to rail these two more often....just to pick up some pointers. I read both blogs regularly and have picked up some valuable info. from both. If you haven't read them yet then you are wasting your money in the mid-range buy-in tourneys. Both seem to have an edge in the MTT strategy as far as I can tell.
As always It is imperative to read Dr. Pauly and his coverage of the WSOP....both on Pokernews and Tao of Poker. You get the official WSOP chip counts and stories.....you also get the unadulterated stories and the unbelievable happenings that occur in the background. As always....great stuff. I can't get to the WSOP of poker unless some miracle happens for me. I've tried some live satellites at local establishments but I really haven't tried online. It just seems so unlikely with a limited Blonkey bankroll.

Not to mention that I'm probably going to sell my vacation condo. and my current house soon. I'm (My family) looking to move out of my current town and move to a better town....lol this ties into my opening quote of the lyrics of Jim Morrison......

I used to dread Wednesdays....but not since the 'Mookie' came to fruition! Get in there and get some BBT point/cash goodness!

My buddy was properly devastated at the bachelor party last weekend......we played golf(I'm finally getting better)....drank a thousand beers.....played poker(or some form of homegame poker).....drank a thousand beers.......watched the RedSox destroy the Yankees......drank a thousand beers.......went to a strip club in Providence RI.....that allowed us to bring in and drink a thousand beers (true).......and enjoyed the sights and the lap dances.....and then drank a thousand beers (limo driver was nice enough to pull over on the highway a shitload of times so we could risk our lives to piss.

Back to reality and a tough work week from hell this week. I'm selling my condo in the white mountains (crying) and will eventually sell my house in order to get us out of this town I live in. I might be house hunting all summer. So much for Vegas/WSOP this year. I hope all of you guys and girls that make it out there have fun and cash in the biggest poker tourneys in history. I really would like to meet and hang out with some of the people who have made my boring job bearable. Destroying workplace productivity INDEED!!!!

Crazy Mookie tourney

I was at one point in last place with 600 in chips. I battled and bluffed. If I accomplish one thing besides covering myself with money finishes in the BBT.....I hope it is a playing style that confuses opponents. I'm sure if anybody has the curiosity to check the hand history they will come to the conclusion that I bluffed my way to the final table. I ended up in 6th place overall after a series of losing battles with Duggles. I think doubled him up twice and then he knocked me out. The kid was on fire at the final table......no way he was losing any coin flips. My last hand was A-3o....I could have folded and moved up a spot but I had the short stack. I jammed...he had A-K! The flop of Ax-Kx-Kx....was an appropriate way for me to go out. I think a 3x fell on the turn. I had a good time at the table just before this. Waffles does not disappoint anybody looking to get a laugh and a lesson in blind stealing. We were trading Blind steals for a while. The table chatter was worth the price of admission. This is something that has been missing from some of the tourneys lately.....a good time....with good competition. Not that there isn't great competition in all the tourneys but lately people have been taking this waaaaaaayyyyyy too seriously. I've never met anybody in person in the BBT or the WPBT but I still have a good time....and occasionally make some cash. Don't get me wrong....everybody wants to get some Internet respect but it is a form of entertainment as well. A well timed hammer-drop is a good part of everybody's poker repertoire. I think people use it just as much as they used to....they just don't show it as much anymore. It's a steal....and it is what it is. I went off tangent here......and I lost my point. I guess the point is to play these tournaments to win.....and have a good time!

Sunday : The Blogger Big Game Results : Me taking a brutal suck out by Julius Goat. Ac-Kc everybody folds....I raise all in with my short stack......he insta-calls with A-9o......Ace on the flop and I am looking good to cash in my first Big Game....9 on the effin turn and I am toast. Damn you Goat.......Damn you. (I checked his blog and he is funny bastard....but he should name himself Julius Donkey instead....HAHA).

Monday : M.A.T.H. : I didn't get many hands....two pocket pair before the final table. I hit two big hands in suck out style.....an open ended straight against Garthmeister and a gut-wrenching gut shot straight on the river against IT. I made the final table but an all-in fest with Schaubs Q-Q and Otis A-Ko did me in...I had As-10s and the short stack. There were two aces on the flop but I am toast again. Still haven't recovered from the Suck out by Julius Donkey....err Goat.

Tuesday : WWdN : Made final table though a whopping 20 entries...out 5th when I pushed (A-2o) the small stack into A-Ko....out 5th. 3 paid.

Wednesday : ?????? The Mooooooooooookie!!!!

There is also a tourney on the WPBT.....does anybody remember that? It would be nice to get more than 17 or 19 that was in the last tourney. cmon.....lets get this to be a destination you Donkeys!!
