N.E. Pats make their own luck......OR.......

Buffalo just snatches defeat from the Jaws of victory? Well color me unimpressed with the N.E. defense. The special teams saves the game for the Pats...we've seen it in the past and we'll see it again in the future. Sometimes the Pats can drive me nuts...but they found a way to win again. I'm watching Richard Seymour stuff the run out in San Diego right now..that's really weird. Brady was noticeably skittish in the pocket but he still threw over 370 yards or something. So this is what we know so far. The passing game is as good as any team. The defense is going to be suspect for the whole year. The Running game still is not great (Laurence Maroney is going to drive this kid insane...I'm sorry but he sucks) and the special teams are as good as can be expected. THIS ONE IS GOING TO DRIVE THE PATS HATERS BONKERS!!!!!! As deranged as Pats haters can be I can actually sympathize with the fans in Buffalo. I said the fans....not this guy....

I was actually at the RedSox game last Friday night....it got rained out by the end of the first inning. A friend of mine called me that day with free tickets in the Fleet clubhouse area or whatever it is. 165.00 dollar tickets is actually something I will not pass up on at Fenway Park...raining or not. So right after we sat down the Benevolent one called in a dial-a-shot from Canada land. I said "Bam-WOW"...the rest of the conversation was "Blah Blah blah.....(*&*(^)(*() Blah" Somehow the Dial-a-Shot is always well timed. Good stuff.

I won some ZZ Top tickets to tomorrow nights show at the Orpheum Theater in Boston. I won through a local radio station and it seemed pretty easy. I think I may just win some in the future. Funny....I haven't seen them since 1991 when Extreme opened up for them at Great Woods. This could be a great show....it seems like it was so long ago that I went to a couple of shows even within the same year. Since the little ones were born I haven't had the chance. That has all changed lately. Late summer has been a good one for concerts, sports events, and general outdoor stuff. Did I ever mention that this is my favorite time of year? Poker has been meh at best. I haven't done much in the way of cashing any significant money. I may get out to a home game at the end of the month. Maybe with the HPT peeps. I just noticed that the HPT website is down...d'oh. Here is some bizarre poker news as well.

Edit : The ZZ Top show at the Orpheum was great. I can't believe they've been around for 40 years. In the past month i've seen the Allman Bros. on their 40 anniversary tour and now ZZ Top on theirs as well. Both bands have been playing live and honing their chops since before I was born....incredible. That's why I like to see the old pros...they sound incredible and they have a ton of classic songs. The Orpheum was built some time in the mid-1800's so it's not exactly conducive to loud distorted guitars. Awesome show...if you can get some cheap tickets it's the best show in town.

9-12

Of course this wasn't in the media spotlight but it is a good sign for the future of the U.S.A.

End of Summer.....

Well...summers over....and now it's time for Baseball playoffs (please BoSox...don't fail me now) and FOOTBALL!!!!! It's my favorite time of year for sports. Get yer fantasy picks and leagues setup!
I went back up to Salisbury Beach this past Labor Day weekend.....had some food....friends....family....and fireworks....and some fBeers....and some fbooze....fsun.....fwaves.....
Well you get the picture....

09-09-09

Why 09-09-09 is special....other than it gives me a reason to make a cool and cryptic looking post title. My daughter was born on 05-05-05 so maybe it's just a fascination with specific dates.....

I am going to have to post a new list of the biggest morons on the planet later...for now this will have to do.....

Concert

I went to the Allman Brothers concert this past Saturday. Such a great show. The 'Comcast center' as it's called now is pretty expensive. It's ridiculous to charge as much as they do just for drinks. That's what ComCast is known for though....over charge for everything....get average service or goods. The weather was bad but the rain stopped for the most part after 6:30 or so. Lucky for us my buddy grabbed a couple of VIP access tickets. It wouldn't have mattered if it rained through the show because we were always under cover. I'm pretty impressed with the VIP area. It's such a great thing to go into a restroom without an inch of piss and beer on the floor. My buddy took a bunch of pics of us in the VIP area. I don't know if I'll ever get them though. He got tickets from a broker and a legitimate business so we weren't going to get ripped off. We get to park right up in the front, go into a restaurant with multiple bar areas and our own entrance. This is the way to go..since I only go to one or two shows max a year now. He found them on Craig's list....usually he gets them at the box office a week before the show.
Widespread Panic opened for the Allmans and they were great. They jammed with the Bros. on numerous songs and instrumentals. My cell phone is lame so I don't have pictures...not right now anyway. Damn stupid cell phone...I want a iPhone or something. During the show the people in front of us were recording with the cell video. I'm trying to get them to send their video but...it may be a wash. We were sitting only about 10 rows back. So Widespead Panic had a bunch of 'SpreadHeads' in the audience. I think I saw them 10 years ago as one of the many bands in the 'H.O.A.R.D.' festivals. I don't remember them being as good as they were but I like what I saw. They jammed on a large amount of tunes...so much that there were about three different sets. There was also two epic jams on 'Dazed and Confused' and 'Can't find My Way Home'. They were all tuning up their guitars on stage and I heard someone play some chords from the 'Can't find my way...' I just mentioned to my buddy that they were going to play that song and he didn't believe me. So they launch into the song and he says "You looked it up online or something"...he also owes me 5 bucks...PAY UP!!! I swear I heard someone play some of the chords while they were tuning and getting ready. There was also an incredible jam between the two bassists. Oteil Burbridge had his fretless six string bass and the guy from Widespead Panic (don't know his name off hand but he's good)tore up the ComCast center. Oteil sounded like he was playing lead guitar...it was just friggin' great. I thought they might come out for more than one big encore but due to the puritans in the immediate area it was not to be. I have a suggestion for those who can't have a show go later than 11:00 PM.......MOVE! It was there before most any of the houses were....the ComCast Center is in the middle of the woods. That's why it was originally called Great Fucking Woods! well not Great Fucking Woods...just 'Great Woods'. You get the picture...even though I don't have any right??

Random thoughts from the week at the beach

My week long beach house vacation is over. Many new memories are created when your offspring (a four year old and a one year old) get to the beach. My one year old kept me on my toes the whole time. She was running for the waves like a bottle of milk before bedtime. Let me tell you that the waves were getting quite large on Friday and Saturday due to hurricane Bill way out there in the Atlantic. I wish I had pictures but our digital camera is on the fritz. I have some on the way from friends that stayed with us but that will have to wait. I also have some pics for the foodies....lobster...steamed clams...and eventually the best seafood chowder ever.

I had two of my best friends bring their families up and I wish I could have invited everybody but you can't fit that all into one week. I just may have to give the two week beach vacation a try next year. I don't know...I've had enough of the sun for a couple of weeks. I've also had enough of the beach migration ritual with the kids until next year. It's fun but it really can make you lose track of just about everything. Including your kids! Luckily my sister, bro in law and four daughters were staying on the other side of the cottage. My parents have this beach house that is split down the middle with 3 bedrooms, 1 bath, an indoor porch and a wrap-around porch (on both sides) surrounding the whole thing....split directly down the middle. We are able to open up the door that separates the two sides and basically its like we had 10 kids running around the whole thing. Sat. Fri. we had 6 kids running back and forth. Sun. Mon. Tues. and Wed. there were 8 kids running back and forth. Then on Thurs. Fri. and Sat. there were 9 kids running back and forth. Unbelievably crazy but we got the best beach weather of the whole summer. No rainy days except for one day.....Saturday....the morning we left. Remnants of the the outer edge of hurricane Bill made for some of the worst rain I've ever seen. People in SUV's were pulling to the side of the highway.....that bad.

Saturday : We get to the beach and my brother in law is getting me ready to up and leave and get drunk. We have a few beers then head down the beach to a one of his buddy's houses. Stop into various cottage for beers and vodka soaked pineapple chunks (it was like doing a shot of vodka every bite...and there were many bites). We get back to the beach house and before I can get sucked into my porch chair it's time to get going again. Wife wasn't hugely happy but I told her to go out the following night with my buddies wife. Parent-kid situation happily avoided. We then go to his firefighter buddy's beach house and more beers are readily consumed. Then we go to the outdoor beach party at the biggest place at Salisbury (Palms at the five or Five at the Palms...I don't know). Ernie and the Automatics were playing outside the area on a stage (again pics would be good but I was far to drunk at the time to care). Ernie and the automatics are a band consisting of Ernie Boch (car sales magnate and apparently musician) and two of the original members of the band Boston and a few others. Inside the club had another band playing some rock hits of the 70's and 80's etc. good beach music. By this time I'm completely in the wrapper as they say and playing air guitar and screaming random lines from songs. My Sister and brother in law are staring at me and can't believe how drunk I am. But hey....it's the first night of my vacation....and after consuming 20 beers and 5 shots or so of Vodka soaked pineapple....I didn't feel bad the next day. Something about that beach air....come to think of it...it's like when I'm in North Conway (White Mountains). It must be the air!

Sunday : My buddy and his family get there around 3:00PM and they get there after dealing with THE worst traffic of the summer. We have a few beers and head down to the beach. I get properly sunburnt even though I'm covered with sunblock. The sunblock is over a year old and I was in the water the most of the time...so that washed off quickly. The first time I dove into the cold Atlantic water I jumped out like a dolphin and adjusted...after 5 minutes. I felt the job/financial related stress slowly melt out of my body into the Atlantic. I honestly felt it move out of my body...it was like the most refreshing swim I can remember in a long time. My buddy and I ended the day cooking steak tips and other grilled goodies on the new grill my sister had recently purchased. This is one of those grills with the side canister of propane or butane. It had a temp. control knob on top and was better than any comparable grill. Since we were on the driveway level I suggested my buddy start up his new car and crank some tunes on the new XM satellite radio that he also has. We listened to a variety of satellite stations and drank beer while everybody waited for grilled stuff. I told him to turn it on low so we didn't have to run the cooked goodies up the stairs until we had a large amount of beers. Last year at this time I had a charcoal grill and cooked for an hour and a half and proceeded to get completely sloshed.

Monday : Same as Sunday with more sun, grilled foods and booze. Tough routine to keep up with...who am I kidding.....

Tuesday : More beach and at least some seafood to keep everybody happy. I cooked 7 lobsters and 2 lb's of steamed clams. My wife got this recipe for steamers on the internet and it made one hell of a broth.

Recipe :

In the Big pot that you will be cooking your steamers
1. Fry up About 4 slices of Center Cut Bacon
2. Add butter and a teaspoon of minced Garlic
3. Add a dash of oil so your pot doesn't burn
4. scrap off the flavor on the bottom of the pot
5. Add water from corn on the cob
6. Bring it to a boil and continue to scrap the bottom of the pot
7. Put in pre-soaked steamers
8. add chopped Parsley and give a good stir
I also added my own ingredient.....one Sam Adams Summer Ale (this is very important)
Mixin' up the ingredients........

I took some pictures but I don't have 'em yet (I do now). Friends need to email the 3 lb. Lobby that had a claw I called the 'Devastator'. Aptly named after I broke a solid metal nut cracker in half. But I conquered the 'Devastator' and the rest of that 3 lb'r with a zeal that makes people uncomfortable. I don't just eat a lobster...I bathe in it's blood! Of course the rest of the night was finished with lots of beer.

The 'Devastator'

Some other random lobby and clam pics :

Everybody was sleeping and my buddy and I are sitting on the porch. He says "You want to go to the bar?" (There is also a house of ill repute aka TensShowClub that is now one of the best nudie bars in New England)....I wasn't exactly feeling motivated to go to the nudie bar...not because I didn't want to but because I smelled like a giant lobster. That may have been a good thing back 15 years ago when that place was called 'The Bowery' but not anymore. I reached into the cooler and basically didn't have to say anything. "Me neither....can you throw me another brewski?".

Wednesday : First visiting friends and their family go home and I go back to beach with Sisters family for the day. I of course decide to sample some of New England's finest micro brews and down a few margaritas for good measure. Later on in the night when everybody is sleeping I go online to some unsuspecting persons wireless router which is unsecured of course. I suffer Full Tilt Pokers wrath and lose when I push with a better hand than the caller and bubble on the money. What the Eff else is new?

Thursday : Second round with friends visiting with their family. We go to the beach for the day again and by this time the weather was HHH (hot, hazy, and humid)so it gets so hot that we have to get off of the beach for the mid day and wait until 4 PM to go back down. It turns out to be the best as everybody basically has a siesta. This time they have three kids and make a total of nine kids running back and forth from one side of the cottage to another. They decided to label my cute 1 year old a witch and all run away from her and over each other. My buddy and I head out to the porch and drink beers, Jim Beam and Cokes, and Vodka soaked pineapple slices. I had my wife pick up two pineapples and I hacked them to shreds and soaked them in Raspberry Stoli. I have to tell you that this is the ultimate beach house desert. We end up drinking until 4 AM and have to get up at 8 AM of course.

Friday : Beach, Food, Booze....then Beach....then Raspberry soaked pineapple...then booze and beer. We decided to get fried seafood on Friday and that was damn good too. Scallops, Shrimp, Clams, and fries all fried up in cornmeal battered goodness. That totally reminded me of growing up at Salisbury Beach. It was a great beach in 70's...a not-so-great beach in the 80's...a really bad beach area in the 90's and a half decent beach in the 00's. Hopefully my parents don't sell the place and my kids can grow up at a beach house....that would be a great thing to go there every year for at least a week. Somewhere in between we are actually really good about keeping our kids happy, healthy, and safe believe it or not. The waves were ridiculous on Friday...but much worse on Saturday when we took off. So I'm outside chillin' at about 10 PM or so and the kids had a big day. They just got to sleep and I hear my cell phone ringing. I had no idea what to expect but THIS guy called and said "BAMBAM"....I said (pretty smashed and trying to be a little quiet) "what?"
"BAMBAM....hey it's a dial-a-shot"...."OH shit....Holy crap...nice...." I grab the nearest bottle and poor a giant shot...raspberry Stoli I think. I was on my last full night at the house and this put me and my buddy and my older brother into overdrive. So BamBam the Benevolent (I have that copywrited) strikes again. Damn if I don't owe many people a dial-a-shot but this guy added the cap to a fantastic vacation. So after that my buddy and I drink until 4 AM again...LOL. I've known my buddy since I was 4 or 5 years old. Now we're raising families and partying at the beach house...I wouldn't have it any other way. We got into those soul searching conversations that only seem to be appropriate when sitting on the porch by the sound of the ocean waves in the background. My buddy was talking to me and there were some shooting stars in the sky. he's watching a shooting star behind where I'm sitting and it disappears behind my head. "That shooting star just went right into your head dude!....must be some kind of good luck or something" LOL...deep soul searching conversation indeed!!!

Saturday : We had to get out kind of early because the lady that cleans the house needs time. I don't even think my friends and their kids had anything packed. They just took about 10 minutes and had everything including their 3 kids ready to go. After they took off we had to do some major packing...it took a while but after sweating 5 lbs out and the baby screaming her head off for an hour we got out of there. The rain started and on the way home I saw some of the worst rain ever. SUV's were pulling to the side of the road. I swore we were going to see a tornado right after. I get home and unpack. I also fire up PC and Full Tilt Phucker. I proceed to suffer a series of devastating suckouts while getting my chips in ahead every single effin time. I mean like 10 tourneys in a row devastating suckout after humiliating suckout. I was tired but I was playing well. I hate Full Tilt Phucker...I really do. I did not miss this while on vacation. I am putting serious thought into leaving my putrid record on Full Tilt completely behind and sticking with Stars and Bodog.

Sunday : I noticed that my wife saved the broth from the Steamed clams that were cooked at the beach. We get shrimp, bay scallops, haddock, the left over lobster tail and two claws, potatoes, and two more lbs. of steamed clams. My wife ends up making some of the best seafood chowder out of those ingredients EVER. At least I get to extend my vacation through food this week. Look at the Seafood chowdery goodness!

ON TAP this upcoming weekend : The Allman Bros. band (40 anniversary tour) at the Comcast center in Mansfield. Can't wait.

Edit : I just found out where my tickets are....

not bad for getting them right at the box office!!!!

The Man has passed....

Les Paul is the father of all popular music innovation. Multi-Track recording etc. etc. read about The Man here
He is also the creator of one of the most awesome pieces of art ever......

Some day I'll have a Lefty Les Paul to go with my Lefty Gibson SG!

Humorous Nigel Tufnel quote talking about his prized Gibson Les Paul from the movie 'This is Spinal Tap'

[discussing Nigel's Guitar collection]
Nigel Tufnel: Look... still has the old tag on, never even played it.
Marty DiBergi: [points his finger] You've never played...?
Nigel Tufnel: Don't touch it!
Marty DiBergi: We'll I wasn't going to touch it, I was just pointing at it.
Nigel Tufnel: Well... don't point! It can't be played.
Marty DiBergi: Don't point, okay. Can I look at it?
Nigel Tufnel: No. no. That's it, you've seen enough of that one.

MetalliPost

Since my latest mini-implosion in the online poker world I've been doing a few other things. I mean after the BBT4 grind and the futility of trying to qualify for the WSOP via satellite (low buyin of course) I'm back to a very limited bankroll. It's not a bad thing during the summer. I will be back with a ferocity to the MTT's later. Probably at less frequent times...no more MTT's on weeknights..just weekends. I'll be ready and will take the criticism with an open mind. That's hard for me to do but I realize there are many people out there willing to help me change my game for the better. It was also stupid of me to jump back into the MTT's right after my daughter was born last year but it also helped me connect with the outside world on some of those long nights. So I've been listening to a certain new CD constantly among other things. I also plan to get out and see a show or two later this summer. It's hard to get out when you have a baby and a 4 year old in the house right? Last summer was pretty hard to get anything done but now my daughter Meg is over a year old so...fun times are here again!

I didn't want to buy the new Metallica album when it came out after the new year. I'm used to getting a Metallica album and being disappointed time after time. There are a few great moments through out the 90's and the 00's but not the shift back to the music that made them the greatest metal band ever. I didn't think they were capable of even making an album of metal at all. The 'St. Anger' debacle was the nail in the proverbial coffin for me. It sounded like the band 'System of a Down' decided to record a lame Metallica album...that's how it sounded to me anyway. Then the band came out with its biggest mistake ever...the movie 'Some kind of Monster'....Jesus Christmas...if I wasn't depressed about the band before that then I know that every single fan from the past 25 years should be after seeing it. It should have been called 'Some kind of Monstrous Mistake'.
I know this all sound juvenile but I've been a fan since '84 when I was a robust 14 years old. I heard 'Ride the Lightning' on a metal show on the radio and I had to get that album. I found out they had another album called 'Kill 'em all' and of course I latched on to that like a lamprey...MUCH to my parents chagrin. I figured it would be more 'Nothing else Matters' and 'The Unforgiven' than the good songs on the Black album (and by that I mean probably half of the songs....I'm not a big fan by any means of the lumbering ballads or the heavy lumbering rock that made them so middle-of-the-road in the 90's). Musically this pained me to no end...I am a fan of many genres of music but I am basically a metal head. People always assume that I am not a metal head because of the clean cut look but yes....I loves me some old school metal. I am not a big fan of the death metal or the guttural vocals that seem to be so popular at the festivals these days though. I like to hear some melody in the music with some basic structure. My attitude about the news of the new album was blase at best. Most big bands dominate for 10 years and then kind of flame out or die. There are only a few bands that can come out with a great album (CD or MP3 download for people chuckling about the 'album' thing) 15 or 20 years after they burst onto the music scene. I can only think of a band like U2, Pink Floyd,The Who or the Rolling Stones at the moment. Actually I think that U2 is about the only one that can do that. 'Tattoo you' came out about 19 years after the Stones started.....'Who are you' came out 13 years after the Who started out....'The Wall' came out only 12 years after Pink Floyd came onto the scene.....U2 came out with what I would consider a really good album almost a full 25 years after they started. At least that gives some idea about how hard it is to come out with an album that is both incredible and at least somewhat innovative after a band has been recording for a decades.
Metallica the band had actually made a great decision in the past couple of years. They decided to hire Ric Rubin to produce 'Death Magnetic' and their next album as well. I knew they were looking for the best producer and Ric Rubin is it. He is well known for producing rap records....but he is also well known for producing some of the best heavy bands of the past two decades. He is also well known for getting the best sound out of the band he is producing...just listen to any Slayer album. There is one comment he made before 'Death Magnetic' came out...he said..."think Master of Puppets for the bands next album sound". I was happy to say the least he referred to the best metal album of all time.

I could imagine the conversation between Ric Rubin and the band Metallica as follows:

RR : "Do you guys want to continue turning out substandard hard rock or do you want to reclaim the thing that made you Metallica.....like Metal maybe??? Hmmmmm?
Band : "Well of course! We've been working hard on bringing our brand of rock to the masses!"
RR : "Guys....I produce for Slayer and System of a Down....what you have been doing for the last 19 years is bringing a lame brand of Metallica rock to the masses. Do you want to be known as METALLICA or HARDRockica....or worse yet HEAVYRockica. Do you want a great album that all your fans know you are capable of creating or just another lametallica album."
Band : (in unison) "You are absolutely right Ric...we will listen to you for the next 5 years and will create music that our fans know we are capable of."

It certainly peaked my interest...but then I heard 'The day that never comes' on the radio. I couldn't believe it...it was straight out of the 90's as I listened to it...but then the second half of the song started coming through. I was happy but 'Black' album happy. Not completely thrilled about it but encouraged. I still didn't buy it when it came out...not until about early March anyway. All I heard on the radio was 'The day...' and 'Cyanide'. I wondered why then checked and the shortest song was 5 minutes long. I have no idea why it took so long to buy the damn thing but when I did it didn't stop playing for a month straight in my car. Here are the tracks and their length. I also noticed an 'Unforgiven III' on there...I thought...oh jeez here we go.

# Title Length
1. "That Was Just Your Life" 7:08
2. "The End of the Line" 7:52
3. "Broken, Beat & Scarred" 6:25
4. "The Day That Never Comes" 7:56
5. "All Nightmare Long" 7:58
6. "Cyanide" 6:39
7. "The Unforgiven III" 7:47
8. "The Judas Kiss" 8:01
9. "Suicide & Redemption" 9:58
10. "My Apocalypse" 5:01

OK...so after listening to it a million times I am about as happy as a fan can be. The CD aptly starts with the sound of a heart beat. I know their not going to completely avoid the last 19 years of recording style and songwriting but I'll say it now. I've been waiting for them to release and album like this for 20 years....20 effin years. This album come out a full 25 years after 'Kill 'em all' came out. Think about that for a second. Any fan of Metallica should be impressed by this album....at least that's my opinion. They recorded an album that puts all of their well known styles for the first decade. The thrashy riffing...the machine gun style riffing...the double base drum beats....the sick guitar solos....all of it. All of it without sounding retro or completely different. I heard the first track 'That was just your life' and couldn't believe what I was hearing. Somber intro....dual harmony guitars...fast time change riffs. That was what drew me to the band in the first place...but it also didn't sound like they were just creating an old style sound. It continues through most of the album....I'm not completely in love with everything on the album. I would say 1 and a half songs I could do without (first half of 'The day that never comes' and 'The Unforgiven III' is about it. Unforgiven almost gives me a break for a few minutes so I'll listen to anyway. There is even an epic instrumental almost 10 minutes long for you fans of the 80's albums...yet another hint at bringing back the original fan base.
"All Nightmare Long' is obviously the centerpiece of the album...if it wasn't intended to be it is now.......the version you hear on the radio is cut down a full 2 minutes and just doesn't sound right. So if you listen to the following version and the CD version you will be surprised after the into there is a straight thrash riff...then the a spot where the drums, bass and guitars all machine gun gallop riff in unison....OI LOIK IT! There is also a bizarre video that can't really be explained...but who cares?

All Nightmare Long

Edit :
I also forgot to mention some other incredible comeback albums. Although I wouldn't put them in the 'landmark' category like 'Death Magnetic' or the other previous bands who've had a landmark comeback album.

AC/DC : They aren't Metal but they rock.....'Black Ice' released 34 years after High Voltage in '75 and 28 years after Brian Johnson joined up with the boys from down under. That's quite a feat....'Black Ice' is their best album since probably 'Fly on the wall'. I have to admit I am not a fan of their stuff after that...but Black Ice is classic Brian Johnson-ACDC

Iron Maiden : I understand from the Maiden fans that 'A Matter of life and death' is quite a CD and brought them back to their original fan base although I haven't heard anything from it....and if no radio airplay is any indication it must be really good.
'A Matter...' was released in '06 a full 26 years after 'Iron Maiden' was released in '80 and a full 24 years after Bruce Dickinson turned them into a real band in '82. Another great 'Comeback' CD but probably not anything like a landmark album.

Judas Priest : 'Nostradamus' was released in '08 a full 34 years after 'Rocka Rolla' in '74. I have listened to the CD and I like it but the CD is simply not going to sell enough or be played enough to be considered 'groundbreaking'. I think it is the perfect CD for them and where they are going though...it should make their hardcore fans very happy.

Changing genres :

The Grateful Dead : 'In The Dark' was released a full 20 years after their debut 'The Grateful Dead' in '67. Wasn't a groundbreaking album but it brought back the whole jam band thing and set the stage for Phish to come and take over the jam band world.

The Allman Bros. : I love the Allman Bros.....I've gone to see them every summer since '92. They give me something every time so I keep going back...best band to see live IMO that isn't a Metal band. They released 'Where it all begins' in '94 a full 25 years after their first album 'The Allman Brothers Band' in '69.

There are probably a lot of other albums/CD's by a lot of other bands but those stand out as big comeback albums and some of them started or restarted their respective genres. It just points out just how hard it is for these most talented bands to come out with new and great material after recording for decades...that is all!
